Recently, there has been a huge debate in the country about the cheetahs brought from Namibia, in which there is a lot of anger among the people of the Bishnoi community.
What is Project Cheetah?
Project Cheetah is an ambitious project of the Government of India. The purpose of this project is to increase the number of extinct cheetahs back in India, thus the government is trying to increase the number of this creature naturally and contribute to its global conservation.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the discussion on the issue of return of cheetahs was first started in 2009 by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI). Then the Supreme Court had put a stay on this issue. In January 2020, the Supreme Court had also approved the reintroduction and protection of African cheetahs to their appropriate place in India. After almost 10 years, the Modi government completed this work. Did it.
These cheetahs have been kept in the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
Between coming to India from Namibia, these 8 cheetahs have covered 8,000 km air journey in Boeing 747. A total of Rs 96 crore has been allocated for Project Cheetah.
Why is Bishnoi sect in protest??
181 Deer (Chital) were sent from Rajgarh forest to satisfy the hunger of cheetahs. Vishnoi community is hurt by this. Vishnoi Samaj consider deer as their symbol and sacrifice their lives to save it.
At present, the people of Bishnoi community have stood up against the Modi government for serving deer in the food of cheetahs, they are also writing letters in the name of the Prime Minister and are also warning of agitation.
Recently, former MLA Kuldeep Singh Vishnoi, who left Congress and joined BJP, has demanded to touch deer.
Various reactions are coming on social media against the Modi government, in which people are linking Salman Khan with the Kankani deer incident.
By sharing old videos/photos, they are expressing their condolences towards the living beings.
